What's your favorite scary movie?

   Finally managed to squeeze in some time to watch SCRE4M. Ever since announcing the revival of the Scream series, I've been waiting anxiously for its release, and alas, it has arrived. I've never been much of a fan of sequels, furthermore, trilogies and so on, with the few exceptions (Harry Potter being the biggest exception), but Scream never fails to impress. It always gets me sitting at the edge of my seat, constantly guessing who the fuck the killer is. Fearing that after a decade or so, having a fourth film might mess up my fandom for the original trilogy, I was proven wrong.

   I don't really want to give the movie away (though I have strong urges to blurt out everything I just saw) just for the sake of die hard Scream fans, but you should all, including those who've never watching a single Scream movie, watch it if you haven't already. The killings were good, and so was the plot. There's just something about seeing a knife being forcefully inserted into someone, followed by a bucketful of blood ooze out, that always gets me in a cheerful mood. Call me a sadist, but killing someone with a gun doesn't have the same impact as being slaughtered to death by something sharp. I even liked how they made fun of the whole “are they still making fucking remakes?” thing. 

   And I loved how they played with the whole, “new generation, new technology, new rules with a return to the classic twist” thing. It stays true the original, giving a taste of some good ol' nostalgic feel, yet reinventing the whole genre with some new twists. Not forgetting the opening scene, which brought in some laughs whilst giving me flashbacks of Drew Barrymore with her little blonde bob.

   As much as I adored the latest installment of this unforgettable slasher flick franchise, there was something that didn't get me feeling the same way I did when I watched the first flick. Maybe it was because I was really young when it was released, way back in what, 1996? I guess the younger I was, the more easily scared I was. But putting that all aside, I still enjoyed this way more in comparison to other sequels where the further they get with the sequels, the more you want to shoot yourself (don't get me started on American Pie 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 1000000000000 and Bring It On!).

   One last point to mention, thank god they brought back Neve, Courteney and David. Like Sidney says in the movie "You forgot one rule about remakes - never fuck with the original".
